It’s no secret that the dream of home ownership is out of reach for many young people. With inflation and the high cost of living, being able to afford a reasonable downpayment on a house within your budget (if you can find one) seems like a pipe dream.
Well, Walmart is trying to change that with their newly announced tiny homes that are much more affordable.
Tiny homes have been around for a while now, just ask anyone who watches HGTV.
People are turning just about anything into homes these days — school buses, vans, warehouses, churches. You name it, someone has DIY’d it into a cozy, functional living space.
Tiny homes take the idea of a traditional home layout and condense it down to just the essentials.
However, let’s be clear — just because they’re small does not mean they’re impractical!
Tiny homes brilliantly make use of every single inch of living space.
I find them to be incredibly innovative and fascinating. I love to watch tiny home tour videos on Saturday nights while contemplating my entire existence.
Now, Walmart is making this tiny home dream a reality by selling a 20-foot disposable tiny home for just under $16,000.
The home, selling for $15,900 USD, is designed and manufactured by Chery Industrial. The 19ft x 20ft unit is described on the Walmart website as an “exquisitely designed modern villa.”
“This Bastone Mobile Expandable Prefabricated House is the perfect solution for those looking for temporary accommodation or office space,” the Chery Industrial website reads.
“With its built-in toilet and compact size, this mobile house is easy to move around, making it ideal for people who travel frequently.”
“Its easy assembly and setup make it a great choice for anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient living space,” the description continues.
“Whether you’re looking for a temporary place to stay or an office space on the go, this Bastone Mobile house is the perfect solution.”
Now, yes, you did read that right. You do have to assemble your tiny home, but the website claims it can come together in just a few easy steps.
The good news is it will be delivered right to your address in a flat truck. The bad news is it’s your job to get it off the truck, so a crane will be required!
But hey, in the grand scheme of things, that’s a small price to pay (literally) for your own home!
While it is marketed as disposable, they do claim their homes can be functional for up to twenty years!
Now THAT is impressive.
Chery Industrial offers a wide range of tiny homes available for purchase both from Walmart and their own website.
Honestly, I’ve spent a little too much time checking out their wide range of offerings and getting a little too excited about what living in one of these chic little homes would be like.
Home ownership here I come!
